Here's why I believe Oregano Oil is generally safe to consume. Please note that I cannot say it is safe for every person, because I don't know how any other person will react to any particular subastance. But I have taken it for several years with no negative side effects. I've heard that for some people there could be side effects (consult with a licensed health practitioner if you're unsure).
Don't take my word about Oregano Oil. Listen to this guy, who explains how well Oregano oil works as an antibiotic.
Dr. Dave Steuer received a Masters in Medical Science from Harvard University in conjunction with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He graduated with honors. He's a previous recipient of the Top Doctor and Leading Physicians of the World Awards. Lives in Utah with his wife and 5 kids, and speaks fluent Spanish, Portuguese, and English. You can see his profile, along with the profiles of many others on the Medical Advisory Panel, at the essential oils company DoTerra. You can see more physicians who sit on the company's medical advisory board, on their website.
For the record, I am not affiliated with doTerra in any way. I have never even tried doTerra's products, but it's not because I don't believe they would work great. I just never got around to it (I have a good supply of oregano oil that works for me, that I bought off Amazon, but I wouldn't hesitate to use doTerra's essential oils, because the quality of their oils sounds very good.
Dr. Steuer discusses how Oregano Oil can kill pathogens. He gives an example of how easily it kills bacteria. For anyone who thinks, "This video is about bacteria, not a coronavirus" - keep in mind that bacteria is actually harder to kill, than a coronavirus. A lipid bilayer is actually quite easy to dissolve (proof further down the page) because it just has a single, thin, fragile lipid bilayer. Whereas, bacteria has two layers, including a harder outer shell (like an M&M shell) that is more difficult to dissolve.
Note how enveloped viruses (which is what Coronaviruses are) are considered the easiest type of pathogen to kill.
Check out this article from ABC7 News:
Here's why coronavirus is easy to kill and how you can do it at home
I saw this article and video on ABC-7 news, where a scientist who works for Clorox talks about the fact that coronaviruses are actually easy to kill. He says:"A coronavirus is what's called an enveloped virus, and that means it has an outer envelope that's composed of proteins and fatty material called a lipid, and it's that outer layer that actually makes it relatively simple to kill with most disinfectants, compared to other viruses that don't have that envelope."
This is what Dr. Dave Steuer says about Carvacrol, the potent pathogen killer in Oregano Oil (he talks about how well Melaleuca and Carvacrol - in Oregano Oil - works to kill bacteria, around the 1:06 mark).
"Bacteria have the ability to change their genetic makeup over time for their own self-preservation. Bacteria have their own defensive mechanism. They produce something called a peptidoglycan layer. It's the equivalent of an M&M shell that's protecting the chocolate on the inside.
Now one of the other elements the bacteria are very very good at making and that is something called a biofilm. Biofilm is its own very goopy slimy mess that it covers itself in. So what's now starting to happen is we are finding that once very useful antibacterial medications are no longer effective at all. What that means for us: we have to use stronger antibacterial medications we have to use more potent antibacterial medications. That comes at a cost to our own bodies.
Melaleuca has the ability to come in and start to modify that sludge and remove it so that the oregano can get to the bacteria and in oregano there's a product called carvacrol.
And that is by doing nothing more than using two simple little plant-based essential oils, you have created a very effective antibacterial solution."
Nature's Most Poserful Antibiotic
Dr. Oz has a page about Oregano Oil, and does a great job in explaining how it breaks down the walls of a pathogen. Note how he uses thet example of bacteria, which is harder to kill than a Coronavirus!
https://www.doctoroz.com/article/oil-oregano-guide
In this episode, Dr. Oz works with an audience member to show how oregano oil causes bacteria to break down. From the research I have done, it appears this has something to do with the fact that it can generate heat. All it has to do is create a tiny hole in the outer surface of the bacterial cell wall that is big enough for ions to leak through, and next thing you know, the whole cell falls apart.
Oil of oregano, which is distilled from the flowers and leaves of the oregano plant, could be one of nature's most powerful antibiotics. This natural and versatile oil can be used in multiple ways to help defend you from infection by dangerous bacteria.
How It Works: Oil of oregano contains a compound called carvacrol, which has been shown to help break through the outer cell membranes that help protect bacteria from the immune system. Studies have shown that oil of oregano is effective at killing bacteria, and could also help the immune system take action against viruses, fungi and parasites.
How to Use It: Make an oregano oil hand sanitizer: Because oregano oil is strong, you should first dilute it. Combine 10 drops of oregano oil with two tablespoons of coconut oil. Rub it into your hands as a natural hand sanitizer. Though it might look shiny at first, as it soaks in it can also help nourish your skin to keep your hands soft and smooth.
Vaporize it: Dangerous bacteria can inhabit your respiratory system and stir up trouble. To help your immune system fight a respiratory infection, put one drop of oil of oregano in a bowl of steaming water. Put a towel loosely over your head and inhale the steam once a day until you feel better. Of course, if your doctor has prescribed you antibiotics, don't stop taking them, and be sure to see a doctor if your symptoms are severe or don't improve.
Make a spot treatment for your skin: Because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, some experts have advocated the use oil of oregano to treat skin conditions like acne and rosacea. Combine equal amounts of oregano oil and olive or coconut oil and apply it to your problem areas with a cotton swab before you go to bed. Let it soak in, but don’t use it directly on any broken skin like cuts or scrapes.
Use it to brush your teeth: Oil of oregano also contains thymol, an ingredient used in many mouthwashes to combat bacteria, plaque and bad breath. Try adding a drop or two of oil of oregano on your toothbrush with or without toothpaste.
Take it for your tummy: Animal studies suggest that oregano and oregano oil can help fight parasitic infections and reduce infectious diarrhea. It may also affect the digestive ecosystem and alter the stomach's emptying rate. Adults over 18 can try capsules that contain 45 mg of pure oil of oregano once daily with meals.
Anyone with an oregano allergy should not use oil of oregano. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid oil of oregano, as it has not been tested in pregnant women. Always talk to your doctor before trying a new supplement or remedy.

From this page on the EPA's Website:
How does EPA know that the products on List N work on SARS-CoV-2?
EPA expects the products on List N to kill SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, because they:
- Demonstrate efficacy against the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19);
- Demonstrate efficacy against a pathogen that is harder to kill than SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19); or
- Demonstrate efficacy against a different human coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
EPA expects all products on List N to be effective against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) when used according to label directions.
You can search for different products on List N, here:
The 2 potential side effects I've heard of are:
1) It can thin your blood (so can other healthy supplements like garlic, ginger and turmeric). You should know there are supplements that are shown to help your blood to coagulate. This includes Dandelion root, dandelion tea, Vitamin K, Green Tea, and Coenzyme Q10. I am not a doctor and cannot say how much of these supplements you should take, or if you should take them at all, but if I had issues with blood that was too thin, it is very likely that I would take oregano oil.
2) It can lower iron levels. I learned this is because oregano oil causes cell lysis - which is the primary reason why it is so good at killing viruses. Basically, our own body's cells, like your blood cells and endothelial cells - have a very thin lipid layer outside the cell. When oregano oil comes into contact with cells, it causes the cell to "lyse" - which means, basically, the contents of the cell begin to leak out, and next thing you know, the cell is useless. Lucky for us, we can regenerate our own blood cells, but a virus CANNOT regenerate itself. It can only do so via OUR cells, so if the cell dies, it can't take over.
Heal a tooth abscess in record time
At first, I just used this stuff for my tooth pain, and I would just spit out the rest of it. The brand I used is called Oreganol P73, which I loved, but it was pretty expensive - something like $25 just for one ounce.
I went to Amazon to see if I could find something comparable, and found this brand called Telia Oils, which had really good reviews, and was about half the price. When I was scrolling through the reviews, I was surprised to see how many people talked about actually swallowing the stuff. And they also said it could help kill Candida - something I've battled on and off for many years, partly from consuming way too many antibiotics for acne, as a teenager and young adult.
This makes really helpful videos, so I recommend checking out her channel, and subsribe if you feel so inclined. I have never met or spoken to this woman, but am really grateful to her for making this video about oregano oil because it really helped me a lot, and thanks to her, I ended up learning a lot more about how powerful Oregano Oil is as a pathogen killer!
