NSW government minister Victor Dominello has revealed he must now wear a patch over his right eye after being diagnosed with Bell's palsy.
Mr Dominello sparked alarm among the public when his eye appeared to droop while speaking at the state's daily Covid press conference on Wednesday.
The level of concern prompted the customer services minister to visit a doctor who diagnosed him with Bell's palsy - a type of paralysis that affects one side of the face.

'The patch is on my right eye - as that is the side of my face that has been frozen,' he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.
'The patch stops the eye from getting infected until I can start blinking with it again.'
The condition causes sudden muscle weakness or paralysis that causes half of the face to appear to droop, leading to one-sided smiles and one eye that refuses to close.
Mr Dominello thanked the public for their ongoing support since his shock diagnosis.
'A profound thank you to all the people who have shared their experiences and well wishes for my recent diagnosis of Bell’s Palsy,' he wrote.
'I am on medication and feeling very fortunate that the community brought the seriousness of the situation to my attention.
'Also given the feedback received from many people with lived experience - I am also having acupuncture. I am hoping to make a quick recovery.'
Mr Dominello has been keeping the public up to date with his condition since receiving the diagnosis on Wednesday.
'At this morning’s press conference - a number of people commented on my droopy eye,' he wrote in his first post.
'Some people thought I was winking at the cameraman. Some thought I had a stroke.'

Mr Dominello recalled how he felt a pain in his skull behind his right ear on Monday before waking up two days later with pins and needles on the right side of his tongue.
'I only got it checked this afternoon - after a number of people reached out to see if I was ok,' he wrote.
'Thanks to everyone who reached out. The reason I am posting is because hopefully it will remind people to look after their health.
'We are focused on Covid but there are plenty of other health problems going on.
'If you have any health concerns - please get them looked after.'
He ended the post by paying tribute to the staff who treated him at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Bell's Palsy is usually a temporary condition with symptoms typically improving within a few weeks, with complete recovery in six months.
Around 90 per cent of patients will recover completely with time.
WHAT IS BELL'S PALSY?
Bell's palsy is an unexplained episode of facial muscle weakness or paralysis.
It begins suddenly and worsens over 48 hours. This condition results from damage to the facial nerve (the 7th cranial nerve).
Pain and discomfort usually occur on one side of the face or head.
Bell's palsy can strike anyone at any age. It occurs most often in pregnant women, and people who have diabetes, influenza, a cold, or another upper respiratory ailment.
Bell's palsy affects men and woman equally. It is less common before age 15 or after age 60.
Bell's palsy is not considered permanent, but in rare cases, it does not disappear.
Currently, there is no known cure for Bell's palsy; however, recovery usually begins 2 weeks to 6 months from the onset of the symptoms.
Most people with Bell's palsy recover full facial strength and expression.

Mr Dominello fronted the media alongside Premier Gladys Berejiklian at yesterday's COVID-19 update to provide information on business grants.
But some eagle-eyed viewers noticed his face was drooping and he had trouble keeping an eye open.
It prompted some people to reach out to his office to urge him to seek medical help.
"Some people thought I was winking at the cameraman. Some thought I had a stroke," Mr Dominello wrote on social media.
The minister said the calls prompted him to seek help, having previously experienced a "pain in my skull behind my right ear" and "pins and needles on the right side of my tongue".

"I only took it more seriously [Wednesday] afternoon — after a number of people sent me a screenshot of the press conference and others contacted my office prompting me to seek urgent medical advice," he said.
He said the diagnosis of Bell's palsy was a reminder to everybody to look after their health.
What is Bell's palsy?
Bell's palsy is the paralysis of one side of the face, and is believed to be caused by inflammation or damage to nerves.
According to the Australian government's Health Direct website, most people fully recover from Bell's palsy, with improvements noticeable in two weeks and full recovery in three to six months.
It's believed viral infections are the main cause of the paralysis.
Anyone with a drooping face is urged to seek urgent medical attention, as the symptom can also reflect more serious conditions, like a stroke.
It's not the first time Mr Dominello's health has made headlines.
In 2019 it was reported he broke a bone while arm wrestling with state Attorney-General Mark Speakman.

Randomly discovered the lame Newsweek “Fact Check” on the Newsom story. So I posted they got it wrong to my Twitter followers. Minutes later, one of my followers posted this comment replicated below which is yet an additional independent confirmation of what others reported (especially the doctor visits for a week). “He 100% did” refers to my hypothesis of vaccine damage. This isn’t very hard by the way. Science is all about finding the hypothesis that best fits the facts. Mine fits it like a glove…every single piece of data fits. And if you read the comments on Newsweek’s fact check tweet, it looks like most people agree with me that the explanation is fishy. Someone is going to be in big trouble soon and it isn’t going to be me… Let’s go Gavin…
As usual, they do a shoddy job of fact checking and her report was no exception. The goal is to defame me (which is why she links to a hit piece for my background and then uses a broken link to point to this article). In particular:
She never gave us her “expert” opinion of the difference between the before/after videos. Nor did she ask a neurologist about the differences. This is key evidence that she just ignored analyzing.
I offered to send her an email from someone who knows Newsom’s condition. I offered it under NDA to not disclose the source. She refused to see it.
I told her the neurologist I used didn’t want her name used for fear of retribution, but that if she couldn’t see the clear difference herself, I would find a neurologist who would go on record. She never asked me for the neurologist who would go on record.
I also suggested she choose a neurologist herself (instead of me sourcing it) and mention what her expert said. She didn’t do that either.
I also said she should ask the Governor’s office why he didn’t appear at the Climate conference by zoom. She didn’t ask them that either. Just the usual softball questions.
I said if she thought there was a hypothesis which better fits the facts (why there was no climate zoom call, clear left side facial droop and lack of frown lines on left side when he finally appeared), I’d be happy to update my article. She found no new evidence I wasn’t aware of that would change the best guess hypothesis.
Because the Governor’s office claimed there was nothing there, my article was rated “False.” She performed exactly as I expected from PolitiFact: refuse to investigate/validate the evidence offered with third-party experts and then launch into ad hominem attacks.
It’s been rumored that Gavin Newsom was out of sight for nearly 2 weeks since getting his booster on Oct 27 because he developed Guillain-Barré. This can happen within hours after getting his booster so this makes perfect sense since he disappeared shortly after the shot. This explains why nobody had seen him in public for nearly two weeks since he got the shot; anyone who saw him would instantly know.
On November 9, almost two weeks later, he appeared on a livestream at the California Economic Summit.
To the untrained eye, he looked “normal.” If you weren’t specifically looking for Guillain-Barré (and knew exactly what to look for), most people would think nothing had happened.
I had a neurologist look at the before/after pictures and video
I showed before/after videos to a neurologist who said “100%” he is recovering from Bell’s palsy/Guillain-Barré due to lingering “telltale” signs. She had a dermatologist review as well who said the same thing. She said most people wouldn’t be able to tell, but this is her “bread and butter” so she knows exactly what to look for.
I expect a lot of people to be skeptical. If you don’t like my neurologist, please send the before and after video links above to your trusted neurologist and/or dermatologist and report in the comments on what they said.
Also, the explanation Gavin gave in the video (that he had a change of heart and wanted to spend Halloween with his kids) seems a bit odd since his press office said he was working in the Capitol, e.g., this NY Times article which says, “Last week Governor Newsom worked in the Capitol with staff”.
I have a good friend who is politically well connected who spoke with Newsom’s former staffers and they all thought it was a really weird explanation.
I never rely on any single datapoint, but all the datapoints I was aware of were consistent with a hypothesis of Guillain-Barré:
All the other things I’ve heard from multiple sources were all consistent with a Guillain-Barré diagnosis (emails with doctors, lawyers, and also looking a speculation on Twitter).

The source, who asked not to be identified, said Newsom’s symptoms were similar to those associated with Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), a known side effect of many vaccines.
GBS is a neurological disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system — the network of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord — and can range from a very mild case with brief weakness to paralysis to leaving the person unable to breathe independently.
The governor has not been seen in public since he was photographed Oct. 27 getting his COVID booster.
On Oct. 29, Newsom’s office issued a statement referring to unspecified “family obligations” as the reason the governor canceled his scheduled appearances, including his planned meetings at the global COP 26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
A local ABC News outlet reported that when “the surprising announcement was made,” a spokesperson said Newsom planned to participate virtually in the climate conference. However, Newsom’s name was removed from the schedule and he did not participate.
The Defender reached out to Newsom’s office today by phone and email, but the office did not respond before publication.
According to Fox News, Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, on Sunday tweeted — then quickly deleted — a message urging people to “stop hating” while her husband has been out of the public eye.
Commenting on the situation, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., chairman of Children’s Health Defense, today said he “prays for Newsom’s family” and wishes him a quick recovery.
Kennedy added:
“However, if it’s true the governor has suffered debilitating neurological injuries following vaccination, it raises grave ethical questions about his seemingly dishonest efforts to conceal his injuries while implementing aggressive policies to force the children and working people of California to endure similar risks.”
Newsom has been an outspoken advocate of COVID vaccines and mandates. On Oct. 1, he announced California’s schoolchildren will be required to get the COVID vaccine once it is fully approved by the FDA. It’s the first such mandate in the country.
In a Nov. 3 press release, the governor’s office said California was launching a “robust” vaccination program for 5- to 11-year-olds. The governor has allocated more than 1.2 million vaccines for the 5-11 age group and is setting up 4,000 vaccine sites throughout the state.
According to Times of San Diego, Newsom got the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID vaccine in April 2021 when his age group became eligible. In July, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration added a warning to the J&J COVID vaccine noting the vaccine had been linked to GBS.
The latest data from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System show that between Dec. 14, 2020, and Oct. 29, 2021, there were 705 reports of GBS following COVID vaccines, with 41% of cases attributed to Pfizer, 31% to Moderna and 28% to J&J.
In April, The Defender reported on a teen who was diagnosed with GBS after his first dose of a COVID vaccine. And last week, The Defender reported on a 63-year-old cancer survivor diagnosed with GBS after her second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
GBS is included as a possible risk for many vaccines including Adacel, Afluria, Engerix-B, Fluarix, Flulaval, FluMist, Fluzone, Gardasil/Gardasil 9, Havrix, Menactra, Menomune, MMR-II, PedvaxHIB, Pneumovax-23, ProQuad, Recombivax, Tenivac, Vaqta and Varivax.

Simply untrue. Although "foreign", traditional vaccines have harmless attenuated virus particles or fragments of viral proteins. The body recognizes them as "foreign" and attacks them. This does not "compromise and subvert" the immune system, it prepares it to meet an actual pathogen in the future. "Compromise" and "subvert" both mean "to make less effective or ineffective" and to "sabotage" or "cripple." Actual vaccines do no such things.
A "toxic" substance is capable of causing harm. Do vaccines contain "toxic" substances? Yes, they do. But we regularly ingest a variety of toxic substances (vitamin D, for instance) that don't do us any actual harm. Dosage is the governing factor. (Enough vitamin D will kill you. As will too much black licorice.) Just because something contains a toxic substance does not mean it's actually capable of causing harm.

'The governor has a young family and we should all be understanding, especially those of us who have been there,' said Kounalakis, who has two grown sons, at the time.
Democratic state Sen. Bob Hertzberg, who also attended the conference, said he suspected Newsom was very disappointed to not be going.
'He loves this issue, he cares about it a lot,' Hertzberg said. 'It's a big deal to him, and I'm sure he desperately wanted to go.'
Kounalakis returned from Scotland on Thursday. Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon will lead a second delegation of state lawmakers to Scotland next week for a series of meetings with world leaders and a tour of off-shore wind energy in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Newsom spokesperson Erin Mellon said the governor will appear virtually at the U.N. climate conference, which ends on November 12, next week.
'The Governor will participate in a couple events next week focused on global efforts to advance zero emission vehicles and to move beyond oil,' she said Thursday.
